In the case of anything involving the safety of persons,  children in particular, more care, caution and understanding than what is currently occurring is a must. I think a citizen action force is needed.

The school already provides children and one school supervisor for the crosswalks.

I suggest the parent association at GHL school  in conjunction with the Brookview Community League  organize 2 parents in the mornings armed with stop paddles, yellow vests, a cell phone/camera/video and notepad to take down license numbers and video driving habits of those driving dangerously and report them to police asap. Or hire a special duty traffic safety cop to perform this duty.

I see the only solution being corrective rather than passive.

Also, a road sign, make-shift or city provided, alerting drivers to our community’s intolerance of dangerous drivers be posted near the speed sign and at the entrance to Bulyea Road.

The shortcut along Bulyea Rd has to become less attractive to drivers outside this community and those within it who drive recklessly.

Traffic cones can be put up during peak school hours marking the lanes. But I’d rather see less traffic on this road rather than making it easier for a shortcut for out of community drivers.

If I had children still attending this school I would not be waiting for an accident to happen I would be making sure one does not happen.

I have sent these suggestions to the Brookview Community League and the GHL School.

Good to hear from the school taking note of these concerns. It would be good to know if the many safety concerns regarding dangerous driving which have been brought to their attention have been reported to the City and/or the police, and if so, if any actions have been taken. Further, maybe they can do more by actually addressing how kids are dropped off and picked on their property, which is a contributing factor to these concerns. My concern remains that everyone is aware of the issues but not much is being done to fix things.

Hello,

My hubby has an excellent suggestion to solve the safety concerns at George Luck school, and to stop the traffic congestion.

It would be useful to have an approach with a DROP OFF site+ circle, from the 4 way stop into the park as far as possible, wherein vehicles could come in and use a loop to drop their children. It could be approached from 4 different directions, being Bulyea (2 ways), Burley, and Buchanan, at the 4 way stop, connecting with the Brookview Community League parking lot, which puts the children being dropped off at the playground of the school. A very acceptable waliing distance, where also a guard could be stationed.  This would truly solve the safety and traffic issues. Infact, a roadway there would cordon off a rectangular area, the very same that has been used for the pop up dog park!

A message to GH Luck School,  it very interesting you can shut off your parking lot and send the traffic into our  culdesac which is very unsafe  because there are no sidewalks and people park were ever they find a space  so as a result we have to put up them walking all over our property and parking in front of our driveways
